Who or what has been your most memorable interview or story?
Without a doubt, interviewing Ed Viesturs. Ed is a world-class mountaineer and the first American to summit all fourteen 8,000 meter peaks without the use of bottled oxygen. Before the on-air interview I picked Eds’ brain about his mountaineering career and in the process found him to be a genuinely nice guy.
If you could interview anyone – dead or alive – who would it be?
My interview time would be split evenly between my grandfather James Griffin and genius Albert Einstein.
What is the best thing about being a broadcast meteorologist?
The landscape of news changes fast but Colorado weather changes even faster! The challenge is the draw for me. Denver is a phenomenal place to live, full of friendly, outdoorsy folks. People in Denver take weather seriously, and they look to us for accurate forecasts to plan their hikes, ski trips, and boating adventures. That said, being an on-air meteorologist is rewarding – especially when we nail the forecast, which happens 98% of the time!
Do you have any hidden talents?
I can cook! (But don’t tell anyone.) My signature dish involves pasta.
What is one thing no one would ever guess about you?
I’m addicted to endurance sports. Nothing erases a bad day like a 10 mile trail run or summiting a 14’er, although watching “24” with my dad comes in a close second.
